We prioritize candidates with great energy, a kind disposition, and a drive to make the team better every day. Every outdoor shop has “experts” — but expertise shouldn’t make people feel small. Our approach is different. We hire kind people first.

The Mission:

We are not looking for a social media "poster." We are looking for a storyteller who can help us build a modern media engine.

FERAL is a group of storytellers who also happen to sell gear. Our mission is to tell the truth about the outdoors: it’s messy, it’s funny, it’s accessible, and it belongs to everyone.

Your job is to manage our Owned Media Engine. You will be the Editor-in-Chief for our social channels across two markets. You will combine old-school storytelling soul with new-school technical proficiency.

The Day-To-Day:

1. The Newsroom Editor

  • Coordinate the Chaos: You are the central hub for staff in Denver and Grand Rapids. You build the systems that intake their raw content and turn it into a library of assets.
  • The Brand Sync: You will frequently coordinate with our Brand Lead, who handles all high-level design and brand identity work. They build the visual guardrails; you drive the car (fast) within them.
  • Editorial Planning: You own the calendar. You aren't guessing what to post tomorrow; you are planning the narrative arc for next month.

2. The Master Storyteller

  • The Voice: You write every caption. Your writing must be sharp, witty, and unmistakably FERAL.
  • The Three Modes: You instinctively know when to switch between our three storytelling pillars: Funny, Educational, Inspiring.
  • Human First: We don't use AI to generate our voice. The soul comes from you.

3. The Tech-Forward Operator

  • AI as a Force Multiplier: You don't use AI to do the creative work; you use it to clear the runway for the creative work. You leverage tools to transcribe video, analyze trends, organize assets, and automate the boring stuff.
  • Efficiency: You are constantly looking for the software, the app, or the workflow that saves us 10 hours a month. We want to move fast. You build the engine that makes that possible.

The Skill Set:

  • Hyper-Organized: We don't run this company on vibes alone. We run an operationally tight ship. You need to be rock solid with your comms and alignment. If you think "I'll just remember it" is a valid strategy, you will not survive here.
  • Storyteller: You are a writer first. You hate clichés. You don’t chase trends. You know how to tell a story that stops the scroll.
  • Tech-Fluent: You aren't afraid of the future. You know how to use AI to unlock new capabilities, not just to cheat on your homework. You are comfortable testing new tools and breaking things to see how they work.
  • Collaborator: You know how to work with creative partners. You respect the Brand Lead's vision and know how to execute against it without needing your hand held.
  • Mobile Creator: While the Brand Lead handles the heavy design lifting, you are great behind a camera, and a wizard at mobile video editing and quick content creation.

The Vibe Check (Do not apply if...)

  • You take yourself too seriously. We sell used backpacks, we aren't saving the world.
  • You think AI is "cheating" or you think AI is a "replacement for humans." (It's neither. It's a tool. Use it.)
  • You prefer a "Big Life" (flashy, expensive) over a "Connected Life" (grounded, real).
  • You can't handle direct feedback. You will occasionally do shit work because you dare to try hard things. We are a high-trust, high-transparency team.

The Benefits
