Shop Handyman | Rachel’s Dad

I live in North Carolina with my wife, Helen, and our cat, Dallas— but I can be in Michigan or Colorado on a moment’s notice. I help out wherever I’m needed: patching walls, building fixtures, and helping execute the latest idea Jimmy and the team have cooked up. When I’m not at the shop, I enjoy playing tennis and pickleball, spending time with my three daughters, making pizza in the backyard, and long walks with my grand fur-babies.
Favorite local spot?
Breakfast after a morning project is my kind of reward. In Denver, I like Cozy Cottage (especially the French toast). In Grand Rapids, Wolfgang’s is hard to beat.
When was the last time you did something for the first time?
Earlier this year, I went on a cross-country ski hut trip in the Appalachian Mountains with my daughters. What they didn’t tell me was that we’d be skiing over 20 miles— and it was my first time on cross-country skis. Luckily, the breakfast was good.
Favorite song to play at the shop?
The Gambler by Kenny Rogers, but they don’t let me pick the music.
