It’s time for the 4th and final installment of our 2018 First Friday Film Series! With our upcoming move to 3936 Tennyson Street this fall, Friday will be the last night we show films in our front yard. Come help us celebrate THIS Friday, August 3rd!
We will kick off the evening with a short film by FERAL Ambassador Brian Lewis, Wild Toddler Chronicles: Episode 1 – Motivations.
Synopsis: Like most travelers, Brian and Pamela wondered about how having a child would change their lifestyles. Before their daughter Kaiya was born, they’d taken international backpacking trips through Southeast Asia, Central America, India, and Nepal. Now, with two-year-old Kaiya in tow, they hit the road again, vowing to raise her “with a love of wild mountain air.”
Our second film will be Hunting Giants.

Synopsis: A thrill-seeking explorer wants to find and climb the biggest tree in Canada outside a logging community on the brink of collapse. Hunting Giants follows the struggles of a formerly prosperous town of Port Renfrew, British Columbia. This 24-min documentary is told through the point-of-view of the residents, the local indigenous community, and a group of big tree climbers.
Our feature film will be Breaking 60: Challenging the Impossible.

Synopsis: ‘Breaking 60’ follows four runners, Stone Tsang Siu-keung, Brendan Lee, Scottie Callaghan and Jag Lanante, who have very different lifestyles. The documentary “is really about showing that anybody can have a crack at something that will challenge themselves and I think that even if you don’t run yourself, you will enjoy the narrative and draw inspiration”, Lee said. Lee draws on the runners dedication to fuel the passion for his own work, but he would not dream of entering the race himself.
Shot over a period of five months in the build up to and during the challenge days, the film explores the world of extreme ultra running. It seeks to get in the minds of the runners, to understand why they would undertake such a huge challenge and follow how they set about preparing for the task.
